Official visit of the Prime Minister of Georgia in the Republic of Estonia

On March 28-29, the Prime Minister of Georgia Vladimer Gurgenidze was visiting Estonia on an official visit. In Tallinn Vladimer Gurgenidze met with Toomas Hendrick Ilvess, President of the Republic of Estonia. Issues related to cooperation of our two countries were discussed at the said meeting.

In the course of the meeting Vladimer Gurgenidze and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Estonia Andrus Ansip touched upon the topic of cooperation between our two countries and it was emphasized that special attention should be attributed to development of minor enterprises and increase of informational awareness among the business spheres. During his meeting with the head of Georgia’s government the prime minister of Estonia stated that Estonia is supporting the NATO Membership Action Plan (MAP) to be granted to Georgia. According to his words, the reforms that have been implemented in the country and the indicator of economic growth are of paramount importance. "With these factors in view, our country is supporting granting the MAP to Georgia in order to allow the zones of freedom, stability and democracy to be enlarged. Dwelling on this, we are going to support the NATO Membership Action Plan to be granted to Georgia at the Bucharest Summit", – Andrus Ansip reiterrated.

On his behalf, Vladimer Gurgenidze extended his gratitude to the government of Estonia for their support and noted that "Estonia has always been a model country to Georgia”.

To the words of Georgia’s prime minister "Georgia is complying with the requirements of the MAP in many spheres (in military sphere as well as any other political reforms), but the main decision yet depends on the NATO member countries. On our behalf, we are decisive in continuing the reforms and progressive development”.

Within the framework of the visit, Vladimer Gurgenidze also held a meeting with the Foreign Minister of Estonia Urmas Paet. The ways of resolution of the frozen conflicts of Abkhazia and South Osetia were discussed.

In Tallinn, Vladimer Gurgenidze gave a speech at the Lennart Mari Conference, in which he attributed paramount importance to integration with the NATO and giving the MAP to our country.
