Today, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili met with the Co-Rapporteurs of the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). The parties discussed some of the key directions of the cooperation between Georgia and the PACE. Irakli Garibashvili thanked the Co-Rapporteurs of the PACE Monitoring Committee for supporting Georgia's democratic reforms.

The conversation revolved around the 2021 local self-government elections. The Head of Government thanked the Council of Europe for monitoring the elections despite the pandemic, also emphasizing that the Georgian Government succeeded in holding transparent, free, and fair municipal elections, as evidenced and commended by international observers, among others.

Irakli Garibashvili also underlined that the Government of Georgia appreciates the active engagement of the Council of Europe in Georgia's processes related to human rights, equality, and civil integration as a factor promoting the country's further democratic development.

The conversation also focused on the dire situation in Georgia's occupied territories, with emphasis on the role of support from the Council of Europe in peaceful conflict-resolution. The Prime Minister singled out the firm support of the PACE for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders, adding that the Georgian Government prizes the consolidated report on the conflict in Georgia by the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, also the Parliamentary Assembly's resolutions in support of Georgia.

The meeting at the Administration of the Government was attended by Co-Rapporteurs of the PACE Monitoring Committee Titus Corlăţean (Romania, SOC) and Claude Kern (France, ALDE), also by Head of the Council of Europe Office in Georgia Natalia Voutova, and Head of the Government Administration Ilia Darchiashvili.
