Prime Minister of Georgia and Estonian Defense Minister Discuss Current Relations and Defense Cooperation Between Two Countries Print Version

Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia met Kalle Laanet, Defense Minister of the Republic of Estonia today.

Meeting was focused on the current relations between the two countries, especially highlighting the successful partnership between the defense authorities. It was stressed as well that cyber security is the core aspect of defense cooperation both in the bilateral format as well as within the scope of a Substantial NATO-Georgia Package. Discussions were related to the significance and engagement of Estonian servicemen in the multinational military exercise branded as the Resolute Spirit 2021.

Significant progress achieved by Georgia towards its Euro-Atlantic integration, democratization and reforms in the defense system was also noted at the meeting. The Prime Minister of Georgia reaffirmed the visiting official in the readiness of the Government of Georgia to file an official application for a fully-fledged membership of the country into the European Union (EU) in 2024. Irakli Garibashvili expressed hopes that progress achieved by the country and prospects of the Open Door Policy will be reflected in the upcoming summit. Focus was made on the significance and engagement of Estonia into the European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Georgia, as well as the Substantial NATO-Georgia Package, for which the Prime Minister thanked the Estonian dignitary. Discussion touched upon the Black Sea security, significance and active engagement of NATO within this process.

Kalle Laanet reaffirmed Irakli Garibashvili in the support of Estonia towards the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia. The Prime Minister thanked the visiting Defense Minister for the contribution made by Estonia in the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM).

Meeting held at the Government Administration of Georgia was attended by Taavi Rõivas, Ex-Prime Minister and Incumbent Head of Advisory Council at the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Estonia; Peter Kuimet, Director of International Cooperation; Kristo Enn Vaga, Adviser to the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Estonia; while the Georgian side included Juansher Burchuladze, Minister of Defense of Georgia.
