Prime Minister of Georgia Holds Interface and Extended Meetings with Ukrainian Colleague Print Version

Strategic partnership, common European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations, as well as current challenges were among the key topics discussed by and between Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia and Denys Shmyhal, Prime Minister of Ukraine today at an interface meeting, which was held at the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine in Kyiv today.

Dignitaries commanded the political dialogue existing between the two countries, thereby noting that the recent trend of senior and high-level visits is evidence of it.

Discussions were related to the European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations, along with a significance of common efforts taken within the format of an Association Trio with an aim of achieving tangible results. It was noted that accession to NATO is one of the key foreign policy objectives of Georgia and Ukraine. Thus, cooperation should deepen further, including such common aims as Black Sea Security.

The Head of Government of Georgia expressed concerns about the developments along the Ukrainian border and temporarily occupied Crimea, thereby reiterating the unwavering support of Georgia towards the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

Focus was made on the heavy humanitarian conditions witnessed at the occupied territories of Georgia and grave violations of human rights. Denys Shmyhal once again highlighted the solid support of Ukraine towards the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia within the internationally recognized borders.

Interface meeting was thereafter followed with an extended one, which engaged the government members from both countries.

Denys Shmyhal recalled his recent visit to Georgia and once again thanked the visiting colleague for hosting him kindheartedly.

Dignitaries confirmed their readiness to further advance the bilateral strategic partnership and maximize the development of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.

Denys Shmyhal expressed gratitude to his Georgian colleague for his participation in the Crimea Platform Summitt and for his support of the initiative, which in his opinion creates an opportunity of zooming the attention of the international community on the need of common effort towards deoccupation of Ukrainian and Georgian territories.

The Prime Minister of Georgia expressed his heartfelt gratitude to his Ukrainian colleague for a warm welcome and hospitality of the Georgian delegation in the city of Lviv, thereby noting that the Government of Georgia confirms its readiness to further advance the fruitful cooperation with its strategic partner - Ukraine.

Extended meeting engaged David Zalkaliani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia; Juansher Burchuladze, Minister of Defense of Georgia; Ilia Darchiashvili, Head of Government Administration and H.E. Teimuraz Sharashenidze, Ambassador Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary of Georgia to Ukraine.

Prime Ministers of both countries made joint media statements after the meeting.
