On the Government's decision, Olympic champions will receive 1 million GEL, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvilistated in his speech during today's oath-taking ceremony of Georgia's Olympic and Paralympic teams as they are about to be delegated to the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Head of Government wished success to the Olympians and Paralympians.

"Madame President, Mister Parliament Speaker, Madame Minister, Mister Mayor! I greet Mister Leri Khabelov. And it is with enormous respect that I welcome our hero athletes and famed Olympians! It is with equal respect that I welcome our Paralympians. It is a great honor to be addressing you. Today, we are celebrating this glorious day together. It is an honor to be seeing you off to Tokyo. Looking at you, I am reassured that we are a nation of champions, indeed. Yes, we are a small nation, but we have so many talented, famed athletes, an enormous blessing, on one hand. On the other, let me tell you that the whole nation is watching you now. I believe that you will make a good account of yourselves under our flag in Tokyo, and we will hear the Georgian anthem many times. I am sure of it. I would like to wish success to you all. In conclusion, let me share our decision with you. On the Government's decision, Olympic champions will receive 1 million GEL. May God be your protector!" Irakli Garibashvili said.

The oath-taking ceremony of Georgia's Olympic and Paralympic teams as they are about to be delegated to the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games took place at Tbilisi's Olympic Park built with support from Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.

Leri Khabelov, President of Georgia's National Olympic Committee, thanked the Head of Government for his backing of Georgian sports.

The event was attended by Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili, Parliament Speaker Kakha Kuchava, Minister of Culture, Sport and Youth Affairs Thea Tsulukiani, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, Japan's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Georgia Imamura Akira, President of Georgia's National Olympic Committee Leri Khabelov, Chairman of Georgia's Paralympic Committee/MP Rati Ionatamishvili, representatives of sports federations, and visiting guests.

The 32nd Summer Olympics, to be held in Japan's capital on July 23-August 8, will see 35 licensed Georgian athletes compete in 11 sports. Also, 16 athletes in 6 sports will take part in the Paralympics on August 24-September 5. The legendary champions Nino Salukvadze and Lasha Talakhadze will be the flag bearers of Georgia's Olympic team. And wheelchair fencing world champion Irma Khetsuriani will be the flag bearer of Georgia's Paralympic team.
