Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia met Bekir Pakdemirli, Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Turkey today.


The Head of Government of Georgia reflected on his recent State Visit and extended gratitude to Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of the Republic of Turkey for a warm welcome and high-level hosting of the Georgian delegation. He noted that such visits serve as an excellent evidence of the best cooperation between the countries.

Meeting today was focused on the directions of cooperation in the agriculture sector.

Export and import indicators were reviewed at the meeting. It was noted that food and agriculture produce in the value of 27.3 million USD was exported to Turkey from Georgia according to the data of 2020, thus exceeding the previous year data by 91%. As for import, agricultural produce worth 114.8 million USD was imported from Turkey to Georgia according to the data of 2020. It was noted at the meeting that import of food and agriculture products from Turkey was trending downwards in recent years. Import in 2020 was declining by 4% compared to 2019 and by 14% - compared to 2018.

Support rendered by Turkey in the agriculture sector was discussed at the meeting as well. The Prime Minister of Georgia expressed his gratitude towards Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) for its backing in various directions for over many years.
