Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia met H.E. Imamura Akira, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Georgia today.

Bilateral relations and cooperation between Japan and Georgia were discussed at the meeting. It was noted that the Government of Georgia appreciates the recent intensification of high-level bilateral contacts with Japan. The Prime Minister of Georgia extended his gratitude to Japan for supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia.

Economic cooperation was reviewed at the meeting. Further expansion of economic interaction between the countries and its importance was highlighted. It was noted that a business forum is believed to be a good opportunity in this direction, which was founded as a platform in 2019.

The conversation between the dignitaries was focused on cooperation in the field of tourism. It was noted that the number of Japanese visitors to Georgia is growing every year and the Government of Georgia aims to welcome even more Japanese tourists to the country, for which various events are already planned and scheduled. It was stressed that in this regard, the Government of Georgia is ready to actively work with the Japanese counterparts to consider the possibility of direct flights between the countries.

Support provided by Japan during the COVID-19 pandemic and its importance was also highlighted at the meeting today, for which the Prime Minister of Georgia expressed his gratitude to the Japanese diplomat.
