Prime Minister of Georgia Meets Regional President of BP Print Version

Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia met Garry Jones, Regional President of British Petroleum (BP) for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey today.

Meeting held at the Government Administration was focused on the investments made by the oil company in Georgia. It was noted that BP has been having a close cooperation with Georgia for 25 years already and it is one of the largest investors in the country with significant benefits brought to Georgia through the transportation of energy resources and supply of fuel.

It was also noted at the meeting that Georgia stands ready to consider various investment opportunities with the international oil company, inter alia including the development of renewable energy initiatives in Georgia.

Significance of projects implemented by BP in the country was highlighted at the meeting, including three large oil and gas transit pipelines transiting Georgia.

Importance of Baku-Supsa and Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan IBTC) oil pipelines that have been operating since 2006 was also noted at the meeting. It is a direct transport line between the Caspian and Mediterranean Seas.

Significance of the South Caucasus Pipeline (SCP) was also highlighted, as it supplies natural gas from Shah Denis deposits of the Caspian Sea in Azerbaijan to the Georgian and Turkish sales markets.
