Irakli Garibashvili: I extend heartfelt sympathies to the families of those found dead in the Enguri River; the occupation regime will be held accountable for every incident and illegal detention

The occupation regime will be held accountable for every incident, violated freedom of movement, and illegal detention, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili stated during the Cabinet's online meeting today.

The Head of Government extended his condolences to the families and loved ones of those dead in an attempt to cross the Enguri River.

"I would like to comment on the recent tragedy that has claimed the lives of our four citizens residing in the occupied Gali District. I extend my heartfelt sympathies to their families and loved ones, and I am sharing in their sorrow. Allow me to point out that they, too, are victims of this oppressive occupation, because such illegal restrictions have for years not only exacerbated their everyday reality, but have also claimed the lives of many of our citizens. It has happened in previous years, and Russia's occupant forces continue blatantly violating our citizens' fundamental rights, and they are the ones to be held accountable, a fact already recognized in legal terms by the European Court of Human Rights. Let me be clear about it: Through our international partners' involvement, the occupation regime will be held accountable for every incident, violated freedom of movement, and illegal detention," Irakli Garibashvili emphasized.
