Prime Minister of Georgia Reviews Acceleration of State Property Privatization Plan with Economic Team of the Government of Georgia Print Version

The Acceleration of State Property Privatization Plan within the current year has been reviewed by Giorgi Gakharia, Prime Minister of Georgia with members of the Economic Team today.

Meeting held at the Government Administration was focused on the state property, including the state owned enterprises (SOE). It was stressed that active privatization of state property and rational use of every asset is of critical importance for a quick recovery of the economy and jobs, as well as for facilitating new investments into the country.

It was also noted that the Government of Georgia is launching an SOE reform, which is aimed at introducing the best practices and cases of corporate governance into the SOEs. Designated workgroup led by Ivane Matchavariani, Minister of Finance of Georgia has been established for the management of the SOE reform. It will design and develop a specific plan of consistent steps to ultimately approximate the SOE management with the highest standards of corporate governance.

Within the scope of an accelerated privatization process launched in 2020 and branded as 100 Investment Proposals for Businesses, 116 facilities were sold. Concrete steps were discussed at the meeting for a more active flow of the state property privatization in 2021.

Working meeting engaged Maya Tskitishvili, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia; Ivane Matchavariani, Minister of Finance of Georgia and Natia Turnava, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.
