The Head of Government, in discussing the work of the Economy Ministry, emphasized new jobs as a top priority.

"Our recent initiative about two months ago, one involving a new investment offer to business, has been a significant success. As of today, in excess of 38 sites have been privatized, and we have quite significant budget revenues. Importantly, this list will always consist of at least 100 sites, as we have promised our economy, our business. That is our task, and it involves expedited, effective privatization beneficial for the state. But most importantly, it will create new jobs, attract new investments, and give the economy new energy," the Prime Minister stated.

According to the Prime Minister, the Government's main task is identify, channel into the economy with maximal effectiveness, and privatize all resources that are presently allocated ineffectively among various state institutions or unidentified altogether. Giorgi Gakharia singled out the private sector as the key driving force behind economic development and job creation.

"It is common knowledge that the private sector is the main job-creating driving force behind our economy. Along with this initiative, the Ministry of Economy has come up with an excellent new idea to strengthen this direction. It involves the same approach to mineral resources as a proposal to business regarding 100 additional investment projects. As you know, natural resources management is one of our priorities, and the state is currently implementing several far-reaching reforms in this direction with a view to ensuring effective mineral resources management and compliance with relevant environmental standards," the Prime Minister underlined.

During the Government meeting, the Prime Minister also discussed the issue of coronavirus and emphasized that the Health Ministry has taken effective steps against a possible outbreak of the virus in the country.

The Prime Minister pointed out the Georgian Government's decree seeking to prevent a possible coronavirus outbreak in the country and, to that end, suspending direct flights with the People's Republic of China from January 28 through winter season, that is, March 29.

"Firstly, we have made a decision to suspend direct flights with the People's Republic of China, the most effective step possible at this point," Giorgi Gakharia stated.

According to the Prime Minister, should this virus be identified in Georgia, the healthcare system is ready and able to deal with this challenge duly and effectively.

"The Health Ministry is in charge of coordination, and I would like to ask other agencies and relevant institutions to coordinate their actions with the Health Ministry," Giorgi Gakharia said.
