Inter-Agency Coordination Council Rules Any Foreign or Local Citizen with a UK Travel History in the Last 14 Days be Subject to a 12 Day Mandatory Quarantine Upon Entry to Georgia Print Version

By considering the new strain of coronavirus identified in the United Kingdom (UK), the Inter-Agency Coordination Council of the Government of Georgia has decided to impose a 12-day mandatory quarantine requirement to any individual, including citizens of Georgia, with a UK travel history within the last 14 days upon entry to Georgia by being placed at quarantine spaces. It was decided by the Inter-Agency Coordination Council at a meeting led by Giorgi Gakharia, Prime Minister of Georgia at the Government Administration today.

As Berdia Sichinava, Deputy Head of the Task Force operating at the Inter-Agency Coordination Council announced at the press-briefing held after the meeting of the Council today, it is noteworthy that UK is not anyway included in the list of 18 countries indicated in the Government Decree that permitted the entry of citizens and permanent residence holders to Georgia with applicable terms and conditions. There is neither a direct flight with the UK at present.

"Hence, this decision applies to citizens of Georgia and business visitors, whose travel history within the past 14 days includes the UK, as well as citizens and residents of all those 18 countries that are entitled to enter Georgia with respective terms and conditions" announced Berdia Sichinava.

At the same time, Inter-Agency Coordination Council is actively working with subject-matter experts, specialists, epidemiologists and business owners to ease the imposed COVID restrictions from December 24, on the grounds of their justification and if decided - on tight regulations related to the adherence with safety norms.

"We all see that COVID restrictions imposed on November 28 had a direct impact on the slow-down of community transfer rate and stability of epidemic situation. Thus, it is the responsibility of the authorities as well as the private sector and each citizen of the country to maintain the achieved results and price paid for it by the country every single day. Therefore, the decision on the matter, which will be announced in the nearest future, is made with utmost caution" noted Berdia Sichinava.

As for the most recent statistical data as of December 21:

4 811 tests have been administered nation-wide within the past 24 hours, out of which 2 480 were antigen based and 2 331 PCR tests.

As a result of the administered tests, 824 new cases have been confirmed within the last 24 hours, while the total number of infected reached 209 462 since the detection of the first case of COVID 19 in the country.

· 4 227 individuals have recovered of COVID-19 within the last 24 hours, while the total number of recoveries has increased to 184 668.

· Unfortunately, 46 individuals have died of the virus in the last 24 hour. Total death toll has reached 2 140 since the outbreak.

Out of 824 new cases confirmed today in the country:

333 cases were detected in Tbilisi, 84 - in Adjara, 111 - in Imereti, 67 - in Kvemo Kartli, 78 - in Shida Kartli, 23 - in Guria, 41 - in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, 35 - in Kakheti, 35 - in Mtskheta-Mtianeti, 17 - in Samtskhe-Javakheti and 0 - in Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti.

At present, active cases of current viral infection is 22 628, out of which:

· 6 627 individuals are treated at hospitals, out of which 2 903 are stationed in Tbilisi, 747 - in Adjara and 1 347 - in Imereti.

· Acute health conditions are experienced in the case of 1 094 patients, out of which 526 are based in Tbilisi, 133 - in Adjara, and 236 - in Imereti. Lung ventilators are used in the case of 430 patients with acute health conditions, out of which 219 are stationed in Tbilisi, 40 - in Adjara and , 63 - in Imereti.

· 1 824 individuals are placed at clinical hotels, out of which 690 are based in Tbilisi, 800 - in Adjara and 123 - in Imereti.

· 14 177 individuals are treated at home.

489 individuals are placed at quarantine spaces, out of which 221 are based in Tbilisi, 141 - in Adjara and 7 - in Imereti.

· 20 741 individuals in total have been transported from the sovereign border of Georgia to quarantine spaces in the period of October 6 through December 20.

· Currently, 42 292 individuals are self-isolated, out of which 18 992 individuals are based in Tbilisi, 5 187 - in Adjara and 6 088 - in Imereti.
