The increasing number of recovered citizens gives us grounds for cautious optimism; today, this number exceeded 2,000, Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia stated at the session of the Interagency Coordination Council.

According to the head of the government, the process is fully manageable and the new model of clinical management is also working effectively.

"Unfortunately, we can all see that the number of infections is growing worldwide, especially in Europe. In our country as well, the number of infected people is growing every day; however, if we consider the figures per 1 million inhabitants, the situation looks more or less normal compared to others within Europe. This is no reason to relax, however. I can emphasize once again that the process is fully manageable, that the new model of clinical management is working effectively, and that the doctors are doing everything to manage this process without any hindrances, given the rather large number of infected people," the Prime Minister noted.

Giorgi Gakharia stated that the strategy of imposing pinpoint restrictions will continue. He also stressed the link between the use of face masks and the need for pinpoint restrictions.

"We all have to take one thing into account: Wearing face masks and distancing are of critical importance. We must wear face masks everywhere, both indoors and outdoors. There is a direct link between the effective use of face masks and the need for pinpoint restrictions. The more citizens wear face masks, the less need for pinpoint restrictions there will be, and we all need to understand that," the head of the government noted.

The Prime Minister also spoke about the 31 October parliamentary elections during the session of the Interagency Coordination Council. He called on citizens to cast their vote on 31 October, as this is the responsibility of every citizen for the future of the country.

As Giorgi Gakharia noted, all recommendations that were issued by epidemiologists and all relevant rules of safety will be observed at every polling station.

"One of the most important elections in the country lies ahead. The Government of Georgia, as well as the Central Election Commission, has done everything to ensure that every citizen has the opportunity to fully exercise his or her right to vote, and today, we can all call on our citizens to go and vote in the elections. The pandemic will pass and we will defeat the virus; however, the choice made during the democratic elections is the basis for the democratic development of our country in the coming years. All the rules that were recommended by epidemiologists will be observed at every polling station. I would like to tell our citizens that visiting certain shopping malls may be associated with greater risk than voting at a polling station. Therefore, we all have to cast our vote on 31 October together. This is our responsibility - the responsibility of every citizen for the future of our country," Giorgi Gakharia stated.
