Giorgi Gakharia, Prime Minister of Georgia met MEP Adina Vălean, European Commissioner for Transport in Brussels today.

Focus of the meeting was made on the EU-Georgia cooperation in the areas of economy and transport. Opportunities offered by the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area to Georgia were noted. The Prime Minister of Georgia stated that the next ambitious goal of the country in the process of its European integration is a gradual and full access to the single European market.

Steps that may be taken for a physical closeness of Georgia with the EU were discussed at the meeting, along with practical tools to be found for the achievement of this goal.

Within the context of cooperation in the transport sector, Giorgi Gakharia stressed that Georgia prioritizes a full use of the economic and connectivity potential of the Black Sea. Dignitaries spoke about the advancement of the trans-European transport network.

Enactment of an agreement on the common aviation between the EU and Georgia was deemed as positive, which opens up new opportunities for establishing transport links between the EU and its neighborhood, which will facilitate trade and solidify economic relations in the region.
