The sectors that incurred losses as a consequence of the coronavirus epidemic were identified during Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Gakharia's meeting with the government's economic team. A special package will be presented in the near future in order to aid these sectors.

The economic team, on the prime minister's instruction and in coordination with the National Bank, has been working hard to minimize the economic damage caused by the coronavirus epidemic, as well as to develop measures to stimulate the economy that will help the affected sectors quickly recover from the crisis.

Specific targeted measures to be taken by the government in order to aid the priority sectors affected by the spread of the coronavirus will be announced in the nearest future.

It was noted that all the initiatives that will be voiced in the nearest future will be aimed at allowing the government to provide as much assistance as possible to the citizens who lost - or may lose - their income due to the current situation, as well as to help Georgian business overcome the crisis and regain competitive advantages in the short term.

The government's economic team is actively cooperating with major international financial institutions to develop further support packages for economic sectors, including in terms of mobilizing additional financial resources.

The decision to close down retail outlets, which aims at maximizing social distancing and is essential to slow down the spread of the epidemic, as well as to reduce the risks to the country's economy, was also discussed during the meeting.

The government once again calls on the public and the business sector to strictly adhere to the recommendations provided by the Interagency Council so that the country can overcome the crisis that is taking place in the entire world as quickly as possible, and so that the country's economy can return to normal functioning in the shortest possible timeframe.
