Giorgi Gakharia, Prime Minister of Georgia has lit the first candle of Hannukkah at the Great Synagogue of Tbilisi to congratulate the holiday to the Jewish people and wish them peace.

"When Nabucodonosor initiated the captivity of Jerusalem, that was when the first Jews appeared in Georgia. These many centuries have been lived together, sharing tears and joys between us. It is a great power. We are united by what many nations cannot even imagine - no Jew has ever been suppressed in this country. It is not only an achievement and victory of Georgians, but our shared success. I wish to congratulate the Jewish people with this holiday and hereby congratulate each of us centuries that are ahead of us with plenty of joint deeds, victories and achievements. Let light win over darkness and let kindness win over evil in each Jewish family! Chag Urim Sameach!! I wish peace to Israel and Georgia!" stated the Head of Government of Georgia.

Prime Minister of Georgia noted that Government of Georgia has agreed to the initiative of H.E. Shabtai Tsur, Ambassador Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary of Israel to Georgia on the opening a Centre of Georgian Art and Culture in Jerusalem.
