Even big countries cannot boast 21 world champions, 4 Olympic champions, and more than 30 European champions, Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia addressed athletes at today's meeting in Gori.

The athletes informed the Head of Government about problems facing this field, and raised their own initiatives.

"You are making a name for this country in a region facing rather dire problems along the occupation line. I understand that it gives you additional motivation and inspires you to work and compete harder for the country. What matters most is the honor and honesty with which you serve your region and people," Giorgi Gakharia said.

According to the Prime Minister, every promise given to the athletes at the meeting will be fulfilled.

"I want you to know that we will suit our actions to our words, and I will not hesitate to tell you if there is something we cannot accomplish," Giorgi Gakharia emphasized.

The Head of Government singled out the special role of sports for the Shida Kartli Region.

"It is for a reason that we start our regional visits with Kartli, where we have a very difficult occupation line. And it is no coincidence that our visit to Kartli starts in Gori, because this city has its past, history, and place, and it has a say both in the country's past and present. You probably will not hold it against us that we met with teachers and medics first, and only now are holding a meeting with you athletes. That can be explained easily. A healthy spirit in a healthy body, they say, and you are the ones best to embody this phrase. Healthcare and education must be our top priorities. Our main obligation is to our children, youth, and meritorious senior citizens, and it is the Government's immediate positive duty to serve them effectively," Giorgi Gakharia said.
