The Head of Government learned about the needs of the local population and informed them about relevant ongoing and planned projects.
The Prime Minister spoke about the growing number of tourists and the need to put in place relevant infrastructure. According to Mamuka Bakhtadze, the new Local History Museum in Oni, to be built on the decision of the Government of Georgia, will boost the flow of tourists.
The Oni Local History Museum opened in 1984, but was severely damaged by the devastating earthquake in 1991, and its rich collection of exhibits is still deposited in an emergency facility.
The Prime Minister also emphasized the importance of the Oni-Zemo Imereti Highway, pointing out that the development of tourism infrastructure is vital for ensuring the sustainable economic development of the country's regions, and for overcoming poverty, because the bulk of the tourism-generated benefits remains in the regions.
According to the Prime Minister, the implementation of new projects offer the region and its population new opportunities to help not only keep the locals on the land, but also to encourage them to return to their ancestral soil.
