In the vicinity of a Church to Virgin Mary being constructed on Makhata Mount, a modern scientific research and cultural enlightening center-museumm of highest international standards will be built in line with a memorandum concluded by and between the Government of Georgia, Patriarchy and Iveria Society today.
Mamuka Bakhtadze, Prime Minister of Georgia; His Holiness and Beatitude Ilya II, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia and Giorgi Tavadze, Chairman of Iveria Society are the signatories to the memorandum.
Prime Minister of Georgia focused on the significance of the project and noted that this cultural enlightening establishment will also have a mandate to carry out research and studies, which fully complies with priorities declared by the Government of Georgia and the national idea of education.
"Strong Georgian state means a strong church, while a strong church means a strong Georgian state. I am confident that this joint project will be one more symbol of this very simple truth of our state. Cultural enlightening center will also have a scientific research function, which is utterly important. We greatly focus on the education and I am convinced that this place will be precious to all who love their motherland upon the implementation of the project. We have a national treasure that our ancestors were proud of. We also take great pride in it and it is indeed our duty to hand it over to the future generations. The entire world should know the scale and magnitude of the contribution made by the Georgian nation in the formation of the European civilization" noted the Head of Government of Georgia.
Signing of the memorandum has been regarded as a historic milestone by the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia.
"There are steps of historic significance and the one made today is indeed among them. God bless this effort and God permit it to achieve noble outcome for the benefit of our nation and church" noted His Holiness and Beatitude.
Tripartite Memorandum signed today at the Patriarchy of Georgia envisages a cooperation of the parties involved in the construction and development of the scientific research and cultural enlightening center-museum. Government of Georgia will ensure a due care and protection of church treasures to be deposited at the museum.
