Mamuka Bakhtadze, Prime Minister of Georgia chaired the first meeting of the National Security Council today and issued instructions to its Permanent Members.

Giorgi Gakharia, Secretary of the National Security Council, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia elaborated on the structure of the consultative body of the Prime Minister. Council is equipped with a mandate of national security policy planning and coordination at the strategic level.

National Security Council will be the coordination body of all institutions that are engaged in ensuring the security of the sovereign and will provide information to the Prime Minister of Georgia on issues of national security.

Next meeting of the National Security Council will be convened in a month.

National Security Council Meeting was attended today by its Permanent Members: Ministers of Interior and Defense, Heads of State Security and Intelligence Services, chiefs of defense forces. Representative of the President of Georgia also attended the meeting.
