I congratulate Georgia and all sports fans-the strongest man in the world is Georgian, and that says it all, Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze stated after the completion of the European Weightlifting Championships in Batumi.
Lasha Talakhadze won gold in the 109+ kg weight category by setting a new record. Irakli Turmanidze, the captain of the weightlifters' team, claimed silver, while Armenian Ruben Aleksanyan came third. Podium-finishers were awarded by the Prime Minister.
The Head of Government thanked the event's organizers and the Weightlifting Federation for holding an exemplary tournament.
"The Weightlifting Federation has been truly remarkable and exceptionally successful. Georgia has reaffirmed that we can host tournaments at a very high level, and that is only the beginning. I congratulate every Georgian, every sports fan, on this day-the strongest man is Georgian, Lasha Talakhadze. I congratulate all of you!" the Prime Minister said.
The Georgian national team has given an excellent account of themselves at the championships in Batumi by garnering 4 golds, 6 silvers, and 3 bronzes.
