The robustness of Georgia-US strategic partnership and the ongoing defense and security cooperation between the two countries were emphasized during today's meeting between Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze and acting US Secretary of Defense Patrick Shanahan. The meeting was held under the 55th Munich Security Conference.

Special emphasis was placed on the crucial support Georgia enjoys from the United States across a variety of fields, such as development of democratic institutions and NATO integration. The parties discussed prospects of deepening and expanding cooperation in these directions, along with the intensification of joint and multinational military exercises.

According to the American side, Georgia is a leading defense reformer. The conversation also singled out Georgia's tremendous contribution to international peacemaking missions and the exceptional courage of Georgian troops.

The meeting was attended by Georgia's Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani and Defense Minister Levan Izoria.
