During the briefing before today's Government meeting, Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze commented on the Strasbourg Court's recent decision on the mass deportation case.
The Head of Government thanked everyone involved in this process and pointed out that it is a great victory.
According to the Prime Minister, without the enormous work accomplished by the Ministry of Justice in 2014-2016, only 118 persons would be compensated, because the previous government, prior to 2012, provided the European Court of Human Rights with information only about 118 persons.
"On the mass deportation case, the Strasbourg Court has ruled in favor of Georgian citizens and ordered Russia to pay 10 million euro in compensation for moral damage. Undoubtedly, justice has prevailed. I would like to emphasize that, without the enormous work accomplished by the Ministry of Justice in 2014-2016, only 118 persons would be compensated, because the previous government, prior to 2012, provided the European Court of Human Rights with information only about 118 persons. Enormous work was carried out in 2014-2016, with data about more than 1,500 citizens processed and submitted to the court, and these citizens will be compensated," Mamuka Bakhtadze stated.
