Measures against the Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) will be commencing from January 2019. List of activities to be carried out throughout the year have been discussed at the Government Commission Meeting today under the chairmanship of Mamuka Bakhtadze, Prime Minister of Georgia at the Government Administration.

Plan of actions covers steps of greater effectiveness and efficiency, including the improved communication with population. Namely, areas to be covered by the deployed spraying machinery, farmers will get information on various measures to be carried on specific days through text messages sent to their mobile phones.

Commission also summarized the work carried out within the scope of fight against the BMSB in the previous years, which have been praised by international experts. It was noted that efforts used by the authorities of the country have resulted in the contained spread of the insect, Plan developed on the grounds of the experience gained in previous years and recommendations shared by the subject matter specialists will further increase the effectiveness and efficiency of measures planned against the BMSB in 2019.

Focus at the meeting was also made on the significance of an improved coordination among the government agencies within this process, including those at the regional level to be ensured by Sozar Subari, Adviser to the Prime Minister of Georgia on Regional Matters as instructed by the Head of Government of Georgia.
