PRIME MINISTER ATTENDS EVENT COMMEMORATING HUNDRED THOUSAND MARTYRS AT METEKHI BRIDGE Print Version

"It is one of the most tragic and symbolic days in our ancient history, when Georgians demonstrated strength of their soul and faith" stated Mamuka Bakhtadze, Prime Minister of Georgia at the event commemorating hundred thousand martyrs at the Metekhi Bridge in Tbilisi today.

As noted by the Head of Government of Georgia, hundred thousand Georgians sacrificed their lives centuries ago for faith and homeland.

"Hundred thousand Georgians sacrificed their lives for the homeland and faith. We - their successors - should always remember it. Path of Jesus Christ and our beliefs have helped us maintain our Georgian essence and our homeland. As a result of a tremendous efforts of His Beatitude and Georgian Church every person feels today that we are successors of heroes. I am thrilled that the event symbolizes the Georgian character and strength of our faith. I wish to thank the organizers of the event today. Glory to our dedicated heroes. God bless and safeguard Georgia!" concluded the Prime Minister of Georgia.

Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II performed a memorial service at the Metekhi Bridge in commemoration of hundred thousand martyrs. Apart from the Prime Minister of Georgia, event was attended by Kakha Kaladze, Mayor of Tbilisi and Salome Zourabichvili, independent presidential candidate.
