As Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze stated during the briefing before today's Government meeting, the Government is overhauling the framework of its social programs, and the new system will enable social assistance beneficiaries to continue receiving assistance even if they find employment.

After having started to earn their own incomes, recipients of social assistance will be able to keep the monetary component of the program, that is, financial assistance, in the course of one year, while keeping non-monetary types of assistance in the second year, such as different types of vouchers, medical insurance, and other benefits.

"As I pointed out in my speech in Parliament, we are starting to implement principled changes in the framework of our social programs, which are agreed with the IMF and all IFIs involved in Georgia's economic development. I have stated repeatedly that the current system of social assistance somewhat encourages unemployment. Our new system will significantly promote the creation of new jobs in Georgia because losing social assistance after landing a job was a significant obstacle on our citizens' way to finding employment. Therefore, we gave high expectations from this initiative," Mamuka Bakhtadze underlined.
