FMO Commends Cooperation with Georgia Print Version

As CEO Peter van Mierlo of the Dutch Development Bank (FMO) stated during today's meeting with Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze, FMO praises its cooperation with Georgia as successful.

Special attention was paid to the country's ongoing and planned reforms designed to develop the sector of education and to support SMEs. The importance of FMO's assistance in the successful implementation of these reforms was emphasized.

The meeting singled out Georgia's regional role, leading positions in international rankings, and the opportunities the country offers investors, including through FTAs with the EU, the region's countries, and China. As it was emphasized, Georgia's position as the gateway for different landlocked countries offers the country significant prospects.

The Dutch Development Bank expressed readiness to assist the Government of Georgia in increasing the share of SMEs in GDP and to support the development of alternative banking and financial institutions in Georgia in order maximally to simplify access to capital.

During the conversation, emphasis was placed on prospects of agricultural development and the importance of ensuring economic diversification and inclusive economic growth.

The meeting was attended by the Dutch Development Bank's Investment Officer in Eastern Europe and Central Asia Jan-Willem Hoek, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Georgia Jos Douma, and Georgia's Finance Minister Ivane Machavariani.
