Strong bilateral Georgia-Austria relations, the country's European integration, and the Georgian Government's peace policy were discussed during today's meeting between Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze and Federal Chancellor of Austria Sebastian Kurz. The meeting was held under the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly.

Special emphasis was placed on Georgia's progress in the building of democratic institutions and European and Euro-Atlantic integration. As the Prime Minister underlined, Europe is the civilizational choice of the Georgian people and, on this path, the Government of Georgia deeply appreciates support from Western partners.

The meeting emphasized the successful process of visa liberalization with the EU and the importance of building on this trend. Georgia's implementation of the Association Agreement and DCFTA was also commended.

The conversation revolved around Georgia's upcoming educational reform. The Head of Government shared his vision with the Federal Chancellor of Austria and singled out the importance of sharing Austria's experience as a leader in vocational education.

The parties also discussed the grievous humanitarian situation in Georgia's occupied territories and the Government's peace initiative A Step to a Better Future, a project designed to restore confidence between the populations divided by the occupation line and another step toward peaceful conflict-resolution.
