Progress achieved by Georgia towards European integration, European Union (EU) Membership Roadmap and reforms currently implemented in the country have been discussed by Mamuka Bakhtadze, Prime Minister of Georgia and Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy today within the scope of the 73rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 73).

Focus was made on key topics of EU-Georgia Association Agenda and effective implementation of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA).

It was noted that Georgia leads among the Eastern Partnership countries and it is gratifying to see the progress made by the country inter alia in building the democratic institutions.

Particularly noteworthy was the significance of reforms in the education system, which is aimed at the development of human capital and facilitation of rapid economic growth.

Parties discussed the current challenges in the region and conditions witnessed in the occupied territories of Georgia, along with the need to find an effective use of the Geneva International Discussions (GID).

Prime Minister of Georgia shared a detailed information with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy on the peace policy of the Government of Georgia, titled as A Step Towards a Better Future, which aims to restore trust among the societies divided by the conflict. Head of the Government of Georgia expressed his gratitude to the EU for the solid support demonstrated towards the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country.
