Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze urges entrepreneurs and experts to engage in the process of reviewing the new Customs Code.

According to the head of Government, this customs code will meet European standards and come into force in a few months.

Georgia will have a customs code addressing the challenges facing the country today, the Prime Minister says.

"The new Customs Code will simplify such customs procedures as border formalities, authorized economic operators, simplified export procedures, import tariff returns, the introduction of procedure owner definition, new declaration forms, and others," Mamuka Bakhtadze said.

According to the Prime Minister, the changes will not apply to the achievements pertaining to both customs taxation obligations and administration, including the unified treasury code, a very important step toward providing customers with new digital services.

"The notion of digital customs is one of the key tasks fulfilled by the Finance Ministry. It is a very ambitious project. Georgia will be one of the first countries not only in the region but in Eastern Europe to implement the idea of digital customs," Mamuka Bakhtadze emphasized.
