As Georgian Prime Minister stated during the briefing before today's Government meeting, the August 2018 statistics show that almost 1,300,000 international tourists visited Georgia, a 10% year-over-year improvement.

According to the head of Government, the cumulative statistics of six months reveal that the number of tourists has increased by almost 12%.

"Georgia is now among the top five countries with growing numbers of tourists. This means that our tourism policy is effective, but we need additional impetus and more capitalization in this sector," Mamuka Bakhtadze said.

According to the Prime Minister, the previous Government meeting discussed an initiative to allow for ID-based travel to and from Ukraine.

"We believe that it is a very positive step that we must expand it to cover other countries, and we are actively working on this issue," Mamuka Bakhtadze stated.
