Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze evaluated the recent visit by Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono.

As the Head of Government stated during the briefing before today's Government meeting, a vitally important issue on launching free trade negotiations with Japan was raised. In addition, the two countries will sign an investment agreement before the end of this year, which will allow Georgia to attract greater hi-tech investments.

"It was the first time in the history of Georgia that the Head of Japan's Foreign Ministry visited the country," Mamuka Bakhtadze said. "We had a very productive meeting with Japan's Foreign Minister. Our goal is to ensure Georgia's maximally effective integration in international trade and global economy. Japan is one of the largest markets in today's world."

The Prime Minister thanked the Government of Japan for financing the construction of the East-West Highway.

"The 343 million USD financing will be used for this project of historic importance. In terms of engineering, this section of the pass is most complex and difficult. Consequently, using Japanese technology is very important for completing the project within deadlines and at a high qualitative level," Mamuka Bakhtadze emphasized.
