2018-07-26

Sozar Subari will manage the local authorities of the country at the Government Administration of Georgia. Mamuka Bakhtadze, Prime Minister of Georgia announced the news at the press briefing today by stating that regional policy component will thus move from the Ministry of Infrastructure to the Government Administration of Georgia.

In the opinion of the Head of the Government of Georgia, this adjustment has been conditioned by the necessity.

"Moving this structure to the Government Administration ensures a greater engagement of the Government and coordination in the implementation of the regional policy. I have stated at multiple occasions that unfortunately current regional governance structure fails to respond to the challenges faced by us nowadays in the country. Majority of our initiatives are aimed at the implementation of new projects in the regions to make sure that rural living standards improve in a qualitative manner. Hence, we took a decision to make this Service directly accountable towards the Prime Minister and gain a more effective interaction with the society. I am confident that Sozar will assist me a lot in this direction" stated the Prime Minister of Georgia.

In addition, 5 Governors will be dismissed from their positions with the Resolution of the Prime Minister of Georgia.

"Due to the pre-defined goals and aims of the Government, it is essential to introduce new approaches in the regional governance and coordination with central authorities. Hence, Governors of the following regions are dismissed from this point onwards: Shida Kartli, Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, Kvemo Kartli and Samtskhe-Javakheti. We will be announcing the new nominees to the listed regions and Imereti in the coming days" concluded the Prime Minister of Georgia.
