Prime Minister Meets Parliamentary Majority Print Version

2018-07-11

"As promised three weeks ago, I am presenting the concept of small government and set of reforms, which we will be introduced in the next eighteen months. Primarily, I wish to thank you for supporting the concept of small government. I strongly believe that with this new setting and governance system, we will manage to cope with most important challenges, which are currently faced in the country both in terms of economy and overall. I wish to state hereby with full responsibility that every single day, as has been the case in past three weeks, we will concentrate on specific problem solving and tasks to be addressed" noted Mamuka Bakhtadze, Prime Minister of Georgia at the outset of his meeting with the majority MPs.

In his speech, Head of the Government of Georgia paid attention to the significance of creating a modern economic model and an important decision made in the past three weeks.

"I wish to remind everyone one of our very first resolutions, which was made at the Executive Government Meeting. It was a very important milestone, when we wrote off the tax arrears from over 30 000 companies, which had to suspend their commercial activities as taxes, sanctions and interest were accrued to them in a rather unfair manner back in 2011-2012.

You may well be aware of my attitude, which claims that current economic model fails to respond to challenges that we have in the country, in the life of our economy. Unfortunately, poverty remains to be the main challenge and hence we need to create a modern economic model with such rules of game that will enable us to achieve the economic growth to be felt by each and every citizen of the country" stated the Prime Minister of Georgia in his speech.

Head of the Government of Georgia paid attention to the government priorities and noted that he assumes full political responsibility with the presented team over the implementation of the reforms in the most efficient manner within a short period of time.

"Each of you know our priorities rather well in all the directions, be that economic reforms, judiciary, internal affairs, defense, foreign policy priorities, education, sports, arts and culture, along with all the areas that await our adequate response to make sure that citizens feel the advancement routinely. Therefore, I wish to state with all my conscious that I assume full political responsibility together with the team I have presented over the implementation of all the reforms that are elaborated in our program. Majority of these initiatives will be introduced in a very short period of time. Of course, separate reform and direction altogether is the education system reform, which will be long-term, however all the other initiatives will be delivered in the most efficient manner and I commit to that. Every single day we will dedicate ourselves to the improvement of livelihood of our citizens and to the tackling of key challenges in our country" noted the Prime Minister of Georgia.

Also, Head of the Government thanked the members of the Cabinet of Ministers, who served their nation literally round the clock.

"I wish to express my appreciation and gratitude to every member of our Cabinet - people with dignity, who serve their nation truly round the clock. Each of them are integral members of our political team and they continue to work at very demanding positions. We will have 10 line ministers and 1 state minister in our Cabinet and I believe that this is quantitatively new stage of development for our country that Georgian Dream intends to pursue" stated the Prime Minister of Georgia.

Head of the Government of Georgia stressed in his address to the Parliamentary Majority that Government intends to cooperate with the legislative authority of the country in a very active manner.

"We are building a parliamentary democracy. It is the philosophy of our party and you know my attitude towards this issue. We will cooperate with the Parliament in a very active manner. We have very ambitious set of reforms and active communication with you is required for the introduction and implementation of these reforms in real life of the country. Myself and every member of my cabinet will be oriented towards this goal. Once again, I wish to thank you all for the demonstrated support. I am confident that with the vision we presented, we will by all means cope with current challenges and what is most important general elections scheduled in 2020, similar to the one in 2018, which we will handle with great dignity and specific results for our citizens" concluded the Prime Minister of Georgia when addressing the Majority MPs.

Speech was followed with questions posed by the MPs, which were responded by Mamuka Bakhtadze, Prime Minister of Georgia.
