"We have boosted the export of agriculture produce by 30%, thus confirming the high potential of the sector and prospects of greater income for population engaged in agriculture" states Prime Minister of Georgia

We have booster the export of agriculture produce by 30%, thus confirming the high potential of the sector and prospects of greater income for population engaged in agriculture" noted Mamuka Bakhtadze, Prime Minister of Georgia at the meeting with Parliamentary Minority today.

Prime Minister mentioned that the greatest number of people is employed in the agriculture sector, while proportionately its share in the economy is very small, thus being a source of poverty in the country.

"Of course, it may seem impossible that 43% of people is employed in the sector of agriculture, as it is predominantly a natural production. My response has always been that we have no agriculture. If we had one, things would have been much simpler. Unfortunately we have natural production with no market economy principles. In the sector, which is called agriculture, people are employed to harvest crops for subsistence. This is not a genuine agriculture industry. It is natural production. Respectively, we need to transform the sector into an industry of agriculture" stated Mamuka Bakhtadze, Head of the Government of Georgia.

Prime Minister also spoke about the concept of small government, which has led to savings in the volume of 140 million GEL since its inception.

According to him and in line with the Government intentions, cost of labor in the public sector should be reduced to 3.9% as a share of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which will lead to savings in the range of 200-250 million GEL.

"We also plan to introduce tax incentives. One reform initiative has been presented and another one will be announced in autumn for individual sectors. It is naturally part of our program" concluded Mamuka Bakhtadze, Prime Minister of Georgia.

Head of the Government responded to questions posed by the Minority MPs together with other member of the Cabinet of Ministers.
