Government of Georgia – Appearance 2018

Giorgi Kvirikashvili: Our government is taking care that all questions of the public be answered to the fullest extent, but we are also taking care that stability be maintained in the country Print Version

2018-06-03

During today's meeting of the Political Council, we discussed ongoing issues and coordinated our positions. As I stated two days ago, an extraordinary session of the Parliament will be held to approve the composition of the Investigative Commission. Tomorrow, the leaders of the parliamentary majority will hold consultations on these issues with minority representatives, positions will be coordinated and, after the composition of the commission is approved during the session, a few days later, as prescribed by legislation, the commission will hold its first meeting. Thus, the process has already started.

In addition, I would like to state that, two days ago, together with the Minister of Interior and the Head of the Administration of the Government, I held a meeting with Public Defender, Ms. Nino Lomjaria. She provided us with questions concerning the murder of Saralidze and Dadunashvili on Khorava Street. The Interior Ministry has already started interrogation procedures on failure to report a crime and witness intimidation. Thus, this process has also started.

In addition, starting tomorrow, the Justice Ministry, with maximal public engagement, will start discussing candidacies for the position of Chief Prosecutor. As we promised the public, these consultations will be as broad as possible. Our goal is to ensure that the candidate selected to the position of Chief Prosecutor enjoys maximal legitimacy from the public. Today, we agreed on principles only. The Political Council has yet to discuss concrete candidacies. This issue will be raised by the Political Council only after a particular candidacy approved by the Government is referred to the Parliament.

As for these processes and those having a sense of injustice, we are a government that takes it as a serious challenge, and there are formats just mentioned by me to answer questions from the public. It is in these formats that every question must be answered. As for particular radical groups wanting to instil a sense of instability, those posing absolutely disproportionate demands, we will not let anyone cause instability. Our government is taking care that all questions of the public be answered to the fullest extent, but we are also taking care that stability be maintained in the country
