Giorgi Kvirikashvili: The state will be very strong and uncompromising with drug dealers Print Version

2018-05-10

The state will be very strong and uncompromising with drug trafficking and drug dealers. I would like to point out the positive work of the Interior Ministry, especially in the past few weeks, in relation to drug dealers, and I would like to thank the Interior Minister and his team for their work. Unfortunately, there were several cases when we lost young persons to this calamity. These tragic incidents were linked by people to the adoption of the new law, which is not related to these cases at all.
The interagency group at the Justice Ministry, involving representatives of the Government, the Parliament, and NGOs, is about to complete work on relevant legislative amendments. On one hand, with these amendments, the state is expected to establish a clearer and more comprehensive environment concerning use of drugs, namely use in what quantities will be considered drugs for recreational use and in what quantities for sale, how the actuality of drug deals will be identified, what psychosocial mechanisms of rehabilitation the state will put in place, and so on. Of course, the state must be more humane toward users, those who suffer from this turmoil, this disease, but, on the other hand, the state must be tough with dealers. We must send an unequivocally clear message to drug dealers that we will never accept it.
I would like to urge all young people, everyone who has not yet taken this fateful step: life is beautiful and full of many interesting things. These are many dimensions to fathom existence, but please stay away from this dimension. It is a deadly disease that people must reject. Healthy lifestyle, education, learning, and active engagement in the state's life is what you should embrace. That is the only thing I ask of you, our future generation.
Once again, I would like to urge every member of the Cabinet, celebrities, those who enjoy influence among youth, the future generation, also athletes, scientists, representatives of culture and arts, to launch a far-reaching campaign against drugs. It is necessary in order to save our future generation. Without it, there is no future for our country or mankind. It is for the sake of our children, our grandchildren, and future generations that we must accomplish this much needed cause.
