Prime Minister’s Meting with WBG Executive Directors Print Version

As the World Bank Group's Executive Director and Representative in Georgia Frank Heemskerk stated after today's meeting with the Prime Minister, Georgia holds 9th position worldwide for its business-friendly environment and leads in the region in terms of easy of doing business. The meeting was also attended by other members of the WBG's Board of Directors.
The Head of Government emphasized the importance of the first visit of the delegation of the Board of Directors and thanked them for supporting the country.
As it was pointed out during the meeting, Georgia's projects and programs financially supported by the bank are exemplary in the region and contribute to bettering the social and economic welfare of the citizens.
Emphasis during the meeting was placed on the four-point reform agenda, successful institutional and structural reforms, and success achieved in ensuring the country's democratic development, rule of law, effective governance, and investment and business-friendly environment, also on effective steps toward promoting a flexible tax system and private sector. The discussion also involved educational, capital market development, and pension reforms.
According to the Prime Minister, financial support from and 25 years of cooperation with the World Bank plays a vital role in the process of reforming.
Future plans to be supported by the WB in 2019-2022 were also singled out. As it was mentioned during the meeting, the future cooperation strategy, which is under development, is fully in line with the Georgian Government's four-point agenda.
the discussion also involved the country's economic potential and the positive trend of its growing economic indicators, also Georgia's leading positions in international rankings.
The World Bank is one of the strongest strategic supporters of Georgia's reforms. Throughout 25 years of cooperation, the bank has invested about 4.3 billion USD in more than 100 projects in Georgia.
The meeting at the Administration of the Government was also attended by Georgia's First Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Dimitri Kumsishvili, Finance Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze, Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Maya Tskitishvili, and representatives of the World Bank Group in Georgia.
