Today, Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili held a meeting with Members of the European Parliament.
The Head of Government introduced the Chairperson and Members of the Subcommittee on Security and Defense (SEDE) to the country's implemented, ongoing, and planned reforms, with special emphasis on the development of security cooperation in the future.
The conversation involved the successful implementation of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area Agreement (DCFTA), a constituent part of the Association Agreement, and the parties pointed out the results achieved in 2017 in political and economic integration and emphasized in this context the importance of the unwavering support of the European Parliament.
As the Prime Minister underscored during the meeting, besides its practical importance, visa waiver for Georgia's citizens also has a political meaning as a demonstration of the EU's strong support and trust.
According to the Head of Government, the country's implemented legislative amendments, awareness campaign, and cooperation with the member states ensure the flawless functioning of visa-free travel.
The Members of the European Parliament expressed unanimous support for Georgia's reforms and underlined its progress on the path to European integration.
Giorgi Kvirikashvili confirmed the Government's commitment to continuing far-reaching reforms under the European Integration Agenda.
The Prime Minister informed the delegation about the state of affairs in Georgia's occupied regions and thanked the MEPs for their firm support of the country's territorial integrity and sovereignty.
The role of the EU, and the European Parliament in particular, in the peaceful regulation of Russia-Georgia conflict was emphasized.
Giorgi Kvirikashvili also welcomed the fact that, on April 25, 2018, SEDE's meeting discussed Georgia's security situation and reaffirmed its support.
The meeting at the Administration of the Government was attended by First Deputy Foreign Minister Davit Zalkaliani and EU Ambassador to Georgia Janos Herman.
