Today, the Investors Council, under the chairmanship of Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili, held its regular meeting at the Administration of the Government.
EC Deputy Director General for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Katariná Mathernová, who participated in the council's meeting for the first time, presented the new EU Foreign Investment Plan.
The meeting discussed Georgia's benefits from the new EU initiative allocating 4.1 billion euro (about 12 billion GEL) to Georgia in the course of the next four years.
As Katariná Mathernová pointed out, the Georgian Government's four-point agenda, designed to ensure the country's rapid development, has proved a success, while Georgia has been a role model in terms of democratic reforms in the region.
For his part, Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili thanked the EC Deputy Director General for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations and the international community for their unwavering support.
The council's members and visiting guests discussed today a variety of issues important to the private sector, such as Georgia's judiciary reform, the bill on agricultural lands, the country's ongoing pension reform, and the key directions of the newly established Tourism Board as an advisory institution.
As for judiciary reform, special emphasis was placed on the establishment of the Chambers of Commerce and Taxation, and relevant developments. The meeting's participants emphasized that the chambers facilitate fast commercial dispute resolution and contribute to the furthering bettering of the country's favorable business environment.
The meeting at the Administration of the Government was attended by the members of Georgia's Cabinet, EU Ambassador to Georgia Janos Herman, EBRD Director for Caucasus, Moldova and Belarus Bruno Balvanera, KfW Director for Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia Olaf Zymelka, Head of Unit at the European Commission Directorate General for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations at Mathieu Bousquet, Ambassador of Great Britain to Georgia Justin McKenzie Smith, President of the American Chamber of Commerce Michael Cowgill, President of the Georgian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Nino Chikovani, Business Ombudsman Irakli Lekvinadze, and other stakeholders involved in the work of the council.
