29 years have passed since April 9, 1989, a day when many generations came together in defense of Georgia's independence. This day will forever symbolize patriotism, fight for freedom, and selflessness.
It is very important that our country never accepted the loss of independence in 1921 and, many years later, the selflessness of these people succeeded in freeing the country once again.
Exactly two years after the April 9 events, Georgia declared independence. Today, this date is especially important to us, as we are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the declaration of the first republic in 1918.
Exceptional is the consolidation following the April 9 events, unprecedented as far as I can recall. This consolidation, and the unification of the whole country, must enable us to cement our country's independence, build a strong Georgia, unify our country, and remain true to the ideals for which those standing here in the morning of April 9 sacrificed their lives.
