Government of Georgia – Appearance 2018

Prime Minister Summarizes Davos Visit Print Version

2018-01-24

I would like to summarize the outcomes of our delegation's work in Davos. I believe that it has been a very successful and productive visit. We had specific meetings focusing on specific results. Every company representative, investor, we met believes Georgia to be the right place in the region to open a regional branch, which is very significant noticeable trend. It is very important because we are practically launching the implementation of the agreements we signed with the EU, China, and others. We had concrete meetings, including with several large Indian companies among them. For example, Wipro, a global player, considers establishing a branch in Georgia to operate from here and offer its services to other countries. There was also Hillwood, a large US-based player in the logistics industry, which also considers Georgia to be the right place for branching. We also had political meetings. A few minutes ago, we concluded a meeting with Vice President Maroš Šefčovič of the European Commission. We discussed regional energy projects and Georgia's further steps after joining the Energy Union. We also met with President Ilham Aliyev and had a very interesting conversation about future projects. We had an interesting meeting with the Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan.

Importantly, every participant of the panel, during which I delivered my speech, pointed out Georgia's progress and the importance it bears to both Georgia and our region.

I would like to add that, before Davos, I had a very interesting meeting with the President of the International Olympic Committee. Georgia, as we eye 2030 Winter Olympics bid, is about to make relevant preparations and have everything in place to host the games. It takes much effort, but it will also bring abundant new investments, new jobs, and it will once again promote Georgia in the international arena.

Impressions that absolutely everyone got based on the comments we have heard is that Georgia is on the very right pass of development.
