Georgia-Ukraine political relations and active trade and economic, tourism, cultural and humanitarian cooperation were the key topics discussed during today's broader-format meeting between Georgian and Ukrainian Cabinet members.
Special emphasis during the meeting was placed on the two countries' shared European aspirations and similar challenges facing both Georgia and Ukraine.
According to the Prime Minister of Georgia, it is gratifying that the first official visit of the Ukrainian Prime Minister and Government delegation coincides with the Silk Road Forum in Tbilisi. Giorgi Kvirikashvili also spoke about the growing developmental dynamics in the relations between the two countries and the decision to advance these relations to a strategic level.
"Ukraine has much in common with Georgia. Firstly, it is our important and traditionally friendly cultural relations and, of course, our strategic aspirations. On our path to fulfilling these aspirations, our challenges are also similar. Georgia is a staunch supporter of Ukraine's Sovereignty and territorial integrity. On our part, we are grateful for Ukraine's position on Georgia, its support of our country's territorial integrity and sovereignty. Once again, welcome. I very much hope that our meeting will bring about significant results for further deepening out bilateral relations," the Prime Minister of Georgia stated.
The Prime Minister of Ukraine extended to the Head of Georgian Government his condolences over the recent tragedy in Batumi. Volodymyr Groysman expressed his sorrow over the deaths of 11 people killed in the fire.
"I was deeply saddened to hear about the tragedy in Batumi. Our hearts and prayers go out to the Georgian people. Allow me to emphasize that this is no ordinary visit-it is a visit to a country with which we maintain close friendly relations. We are obligated to continue our cooperation in a variety of areas. I am honored and privileged to participate in the Silk Road Forum, and I am committed to continuing our cooperation, which will draw our Governments even closer. Our delegation today consists of experts in the priority areas of our cooperation, from culture to economy. We support Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty, and we are aware of your position, including personal stance, on supporting Ukraine in the international arena. By maintaining your position, you are contributing tremendously to the strengthening of democracy and the restoration of international justice," the Prime Minister of Ukraine stated.
Members of the two countries' Cabinets also participated in the broader-format meeting.
