Kutaisi University Complex to Cooperate with the Technical University of Munich Print Version

Specialists representing the Technical University of Munich (the TUM) in cooperation with the Georgian side will work on the academic development plan, academic and research programs of the Kutaisi University Complex. They will also draft the outline of development of the managing structures of the said higher education institution. Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili and Managing Director of TUM International (an entity established for the purpose of implementing the international projects by the TUM) Dipl.-Kfm. Daniel A. Gottschald discussed the specific directions of cooperation during their meeting today.

Quality management standards of the TUM will be applied in the process of developing the academic and research programs as well as selecting the academic and administrative staff of the university complex.

Specialists of the Munich University will provide consulting services to Georgian architects engaged in drafting the infrastructural projects for the University.

Details of the cooperation are outlined in the Cooperation Agreement that was signed today by the TUM International and NNLE "Kutaisi University Complex". Cartu Foundation and Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia signed the memorandum on allocation of funding for the project.

The agreement signed with the TUM International also sets forth the clause concerning establishment of the Center of Innovations, Clusters Hub and Center of Applied Researches under the umbrella of Kutaisi University as well as provisions on establishing of potential business partners. Concepts of the Centers of Transfer of the Knowledge and Innovations will also be elaborated to assist Kutaisi University to become the regional hub of knowledge and innovations.
The largest Caucasian University Complex with modern infrastructure and modern laboratories will be constructed on 140 ha in Kutaisi. The budget of the project, including Technology Center of Tbilisi, is 1 billion Euro and is fully funded by the Cartu Foundation.

A Board of Directors, comprised of representatives of Munich University and governments of Georgia and Bavaria will work on the project.

The TUM was founded in 19th century. It has 12 departments, including engineering, natural and social sciences, agriculture, food technologies and medical departments.

University pays particular attention to innovations and technologies. More than 1000 agreements with leading technical universities are signed annually. Its students have already launched more than 800 start-up companies.

Technical University of Munich has more than 40 000 students and 10 000 staff members. 13 professors of the University have obtained Nobel Prizes in the fields of medicine, physics and chemistry.
