Government of Georgia – Appearance 2017

Prime Minister’s Statement Print Version

2017-06-13

Two years ago today, a natural disaster and its tragic aftermath hit Tbilisi, claiming the lives of 21 people, with two more missing. Hundreds were devastated. I once again honor the memory of those departed and offer my deepest sympathies to their families.

It has been an enormous trial and tragedy facing all of us. Had it not been for the selflessness of our rescuers, the consequences would have been much more devastating. I bow down in remembrance of Zurab Muzashvili, a rescuer who sacrificed his own life to save eight people.

The June 13-14 tragedy once again showed us what common disasters are about and how powerful unity and civic responsibility can be. At that time of distress, everyone joined state institutions in rising to the challenge of tackling the disaster's consequences, especially our youth who took a strong stand, as befits true citizens. It is thanks to them that June 13, besides marking a time of great trials and tribulations, also reminds us the incomparable power and importance of solidarity.

Giorgi Kvirikashvili
Prime Minister of Georgia
