2017-06-01

The Law of Georgia on Civil Security will be amended. Prior to the Government session the Prime Minister discussed draft amendments. According to Giorgi Kvirikashvili, the amendments aim at increased state protection in cases of unforeseen developments that may erupt in places of public gathering and threaten life, health or property of a third party. The draft provisions also ensure effective prevention of possible damage.

"Recent fire breakouts have substantially damaged trading centers, their customers and SMEs operating in them. Therefore, we would like to introduce an amendment - the state shall develop a list of facilities and public gathering places subjected to mandatory insurance to cover a possible damage that may be inflicted upon life, health and property of a third party," - the Prime Minister noted.

Giorgi Kvirikashvili believes that the state miscalculated the possible effects of its decision to eliminate several types of mandatory insurance. According to the Prime Minister, the Government fosters development of insurance types that are operating in every developed county.

"The civil liability of the owners of vehicles registered in foreign countries and travelling in Georgia will also be subjected to a mandatory insurance. This requirement will be fulfilled, since we have encountered numerous incidents that entail casualties or loss of property. We also intend to apply this requirement to the owners of vehicles registered not only in foreign countries, but in Georgia as well. This will be crucial step in terms of joining the Green Card System. This will also help us ensure that foreign tourists travelling across Georgia fell that every rule operating in civilized states is also applicable in our country. The third party civil liability shall be insured as comprehensively as possible," - Giorgi Kvirikashvili noted.
