Government of Georgia – Appearance 2017

PRESIDENT TRUMP'S LETTER TO PRIME MINISTER OF GEORGIA ON THE OCCASION OF THE INDEPENDENCE DAY OF GEORGIA Print Version

2017-06-03

His Excellency Mr. Giorgi Kvirikashvili,
Prime Minister of Georgia,
Tbilisi, Georgia.

Dear Mr. Prime Minister:

It is my great honor to wish you and the people of Georgia congratulations on your Independence Day on May 26. The United States and Georgia share a deep and enduring partnership, which we discussed during your recent visit to Washington and which I have no doubt will continue to strengthen in the years to come.

Since independence, Georgia has emerged as a democratic leader and a contributor to global security. The United States remains grateful for your sacrifices in Afghanistan, where Georgian troops serve bravely alongside U.S. and international forces as part of NATO's important mission there. We also appreciate your partnership in the coalition to destroy the scourge of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.

In a region that faces insecurity and outside pressure, Georgia has shown courage and determination in charting its own future. We will continue to support that choice, as Georgian independence and democracy remain an inspiration to the world. The United States also remains steadfast in supporting Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders.

My administration and I look forward to continuing our work together to achieve peace, prosperity, and security for our two countries.

Sincerely, Donald J. Trump
