Prime Minister’s Instructions Print Version

2017-03-23

At today's Government meeting, Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili addressed the issue of violations related to municipal competitive tenders. In certain cases, some companies, while implementing their proposals using state finances, fail to remunerate their employees on time.

Giorgi Kvirikashvili instructed Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Zurab Alavidze and law enforcement bodies to address this issue with due severity.

"Very negative precedents have been uncovered lately, especially in relation to municipal competitive tenders, when companies implement their proposed projects with financing from the state, but fail to pay their employees on time, which is absolutely unacceptable. I would like to ask the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure to maintain control in every municipality and address such incidents with due severity. Not paying employees is a demonstration of utter irresponsibility, and such incidents must be addressed decisively. Such companies must be blacklisted, and I instruct the law enforcement bodies to be strict in responding to these cases. Our citizens, who participate in the implementation of state-funded projects, must be paid on time, as simple as that. The heads and governors of the municipalities implementing such projects will be held accountable if such incidents occur again. I want to give everyone fair but strict warning," the Prime Minister stated at today's Government meeting.
