Border Helicopter to Fly to Omalo Print Version

2017-03-23

A helicopter will complete flights once a week to Omalo, Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili stated today at the Government meeting. According to him, until the launch of a land route, Omalo's residents will be able to communicate with the rest of Georgia using a helicopter flying once a week.

"A few days ago, we celebrated Day of Border Guards. Today, I once again wish our border guards a happy holiday. Theirs is one of the most honorable vocations-they stand sentinel guarding the safety of every citizen of Georgia. They often work in very difficult circumstances. I visited the Omalo Border Checkpoint to wish the guards a happy professional holiday. I would like to ask the Interior Ministry to carry out helicopter flights once a week, until the road opens after the snow melts, so that both the guards and the locals may stay in touch with the rest of the country. It is a very difficult region, but I can state that the guards receive due attention. I do not want anyone to feel criticized, because there is a good material and technical framework, though good communication does require helicopter flights. I would like to instruct the Ministry of Finance to allocate relevant finances, which is quite feasible. I also instruct the Ministry of Infrastructure to pay special attention to this direction, so that we may use helicopter flights to help the region's population solve their various needs in winter. One flight a week is a must. It will be a border helicopter that will serve both the border guards and the local population," the Prime Minister stated.
