Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili laid a wreath at the memorial of the cadets who fought for Georgia's independence, and paid homage to those fallen in the battle against Soviet occupants on February 25, 1921.
"Today marks a tragic date in Georgia's modern history. In early 20th century, Georgia briefly succeeded in functioning as a democratic Western state. Unfortunately, even the heroic courage of these young men proved unable to determine the outcome of this battle. However, we do have a long-term war to win; this war means building the future of a free, independent, and genuinely European Georgia and this process must be exclusively peaceful. This is our job, to give our children a truly free and unified country-this is my firm conviction. The souls of these heroes continue to shine upon us, and it is our duty to live up to their standards and deserve to be called their descendants. We must also employ more symbolism, including commemorating in our everyday lives the names of those who sacrificed their lives in a severely mismatched battle," Giorgi Kvirikashvili stated.
The Prime Minister welcomes all initiatives seeking to immortalize the names of heroes fallen in the fight for their homeland.
"I welcome such initiatives without exception. We must commemorate them more frequently, including in schools, educational institutions. They made history fighting an uphill battle, which is why we are obligated to honor their memory," the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister visited the memorial of the cadets in the company of the Chairman of the Georgian Parliament Irakli Kobakhidze and the Defense Minister Levan Izoria.
